The cups look better than they taste, or contentment has become a performance of having. Ask what you actually wanted. Nine reversed is often plenty with a hole in it — fill the hole with meaning, not with a tenth cup.

History

A stout figure sits with arms crossed before a curved shelf of nine golden cups, a red hat like a tavern keeper’s. Waite called it material success and the wish fulfilled. Smith’s host is unashamed. Water here has become hospitality so complete it can rest — feeling as a feast, not a search.
