Two of Swords
Upright
stalemate · a truce · two truths, eyes closed
Blindfolded, two swords crossed, the sea at your back. You are holding a balance that cannot last, and that may be wise for one more night, so do not force a verdict in the dark. When you are ready, lower one blade and look; the water already knows.
Reversed
the blindfold loosening · a choice arriving · denial of the water
The blindfold is slipping, which is mercy. A choice you postponed is walking up the rocks. Make it with as much gentleness as the swords allow. Two reversed can also be a refusal to admit the stalemate — name the water before you drown in the pose.
On the card
The blindfold
A chosen not-seeing. Pause, or avoidance — check which.
Crossed swords
Two thoughts held. A truce, not a solution.
The sea
Feeling behind the mind. The water is still moving.
When it shows up
This looks like not opening the email, sitting on the fence, needing one more night before you pick.
History
A seated woman, blindfolded in white, holds two crossed swords; behind her a riven sea and distant rocks under a crescent moon. Smith’s moon ties this minor to tides of the unconscious. Waite’s Two is truce and stalemate — air suspended. The crossed blades are a decision wearing the costume of peace.
If you want to sit with it
What are you refusing to see — and is the refusal protecting you or stalling you?
Optional. Nothing is saved.
