Five of Wands
Upright
strife · testing · a messy practice
Five people, five sticks, no referee. This is competition, a noisy workshop, growth that looks like a scuffle, and nobody has to be the villain. Stay in the game, keep your feet, and learn what your fire does under pressure; some gardens only thicken after a good argument.
Reversed
conflict cooling · rivalry turned inward · picking up your own stick
The tussle is winding down, or it has moved into your own chest. Put the extra wands down. If the fight was never yours, walk off the lot. If it was, finish it cleanly — one honest round, then water.
On the card
Crossed staves
Conflict as sport or scramble. Heat without a referee.
Open sky
No one is dying here. This is a contest, not a war.
Many hands
Wills colliding. Someone has to name the game.
When it shows up
This looks like the group chat going sharp, the meeting with too many captains, sibling fire.
History
Five youths clash with staves on broken ground, a hill-town behind. Waite did not paint a war so much as a melee of apprentices. Smith’s composition is all angles and lifted wood — fire’s elemental quarrel with itself. Golden Dawn tied wands to fire; here that fire is sport, strife, and the heat of becoming.
If you want to sit with it
Is this a fight that needs a winner, or heat that needs a rule?
Optional. Nothing is saved.
