The Fool stepped off the edge. The Magician is what happens when that step becomes work — curiosity finding a wand.

History

Smith’s Magician raises a wand to heaven and points to earth, the old hermetic gesture. On his table sit cup, sword, pentacle, and wand — every suit, every element, ready. The lemniscate over his head is Waite’s sign of unbroken will; red roses and white lilies crowd the garden at his feet. He is the Marseille Bateleur recast from street juggler into magus.
