Let yourself be helped; the night is still a night, but it has a star you can steer by, and that is enough to walk.

dimmed hope · trouble receiving · forgetting the well

The well is there and you keep walking past it, or you have mistaken hope for a feeling you must manufacture. Receive a little: one honest rest, one glass of water, one person told the truth. The Star reversed is rarely absence of light; it is a difficulty in letting the light land.

History

Smith’s naked woman kneels with one foot on land and one on water, emptying two jugs — one onto soil, one into a pool. A great eight-pointed star hangs above seven smaller ones; an ibis perches in a tree. After the Tower, Waite gives Aquarius: the water-bearer restoring the earth.
